Leading a zone
Your coordinator gave you lead controls for your area. You now have four buttons nobody else in the zone has, and one real responsibility.
For a helper who’s been given lead controls. You’ll know, because a banner says so.
You’re still a helper — no account, no password, nothing installed. You just have more to work with than everyone else in your area.
What you can do
Take ownership of a request. Somebody in your area is stuck. Taking ownership says you’ve got it, and everyone can see that — including the person who raised it, who otherwise has no idea whether anyone is coming.
Do this even before you can fix it. Silence is the thing that makes people give up and wander off looking for someone.
Resolve a request. The problem is dealt with. Say what happened in the note — it ends up on the report, and in a few weeks it’s the only record of why the run went the way it did.
Confirm your zone ready. The big one. See below.
Reopen your zone, if you confirmed it and then something changed. Better to reopen than to hope.
Confirming your zone
When your area’s required work is finished and its required gear is confirmed present, you can confirm the zone ready.
This is you putting your name to the room. Not a counter reaching zero — the software already knows the counts. What it can’t do is look around, and that’s the part you’re being asked for.
It’s recorded, with your name and the time, and it appears on the report.
Before you confirm, the short version of the job: walk it. The board can tell you every task is ticked. It cannot tell you the chairs are straight, the cable is taped down, or that somebody left a box in the doorway.
What you can’t do
You can only act inside your own area. You’ll see the roster and what’s happening elsewhere, but the buttons are for your zone.
You also can’t confirm a zone with nothing planned in it — there’s nothing to confirm.
When you’re not sure
Confirming a zone that isn’t ready is worse than leaving it open. An open zone is visible, and somebody will come and deal with it. A confirmed zone is one the coordinator has stopped worrying about.
If you’re unsure, don’t confirm — raise a request instead and say what’s bothering you. That’s the entire reason both options exist.
